Torchwood CoE has finished

I am listening to the TW soundtrack. I agree with Other Lauren and I should just not get emotionally invested in shows. Fuck's sake I watch these things to help me be ok.

And now I'm just even more depressed.

I find myself wanting to rewatch Owen and Tosh's deaths... at least they went down honourably and fighting all the way.

Hate the world.

Love the fact that Ianto bought coffee.

And what happened to Mfanwy?
Ianto Fucking Jones

Just watched tonight's Torchwood.

Holy. Crap.

I love it when they remind you that Jack wasn't always the good guy... even after the whole Doctor thing, he still slipped up.

Unless of course they are misleading us.

I mean, why twelve? Perhaps he had to give them those twelve so that they wouldn't take ten percent last time? Like the whole thing with giving that girl to the fairies back in S1?

Or perhaps he IS just a bastard.

Wouldn't that be awesome.

Remember in Countrycide when he told that man that he used to be quite the 'go to guy' for torture?

Yeh. That's the Jack I really love.

RE: Torchwood: Children of Earth Day Two

I have so much to say about this but typing hurts me these days. Need to get me one of those things you talk at it and it translates it to words... whatdyacallit... a secretary. Anyway. My main reaction to Day Two is this:

I KNEW IANTO WAS ABUSED!! I have maintained it for fucking years.

Yeh, his sister (?) tried to make out like it wasn't abuse but from what Ianto said and the way he said it... yeh, abused. I spazzed out completely when I read that card he wrote.

Oh, also - WHY DO THEY HATE JACK?? I think Barrowman must have pissed the writers off or something... lol and did anyone else notice dick shot? W00T! *is so shallow*

Going away now.

Heroes ep 323 - '1961' SPOILERS

First a little note - In the Wiki for Heroes list of eps it says there is another after next week's I Am Sylar called An Invisible Thread. Interesting, random and, according to the promos, wrong. Odd.

Ok so I've been holding off writing about this episode since I watched it last night. Partly because I never write my reactions as I can never be bothered and partly because it would have been one incoherent angry scream if I had. There were, in my opinion, only three good points about this episode. (Please bear with me as I feel like hell today so my writing is probably pretty crap.)

1. Angsty Mohinder. Who finally admitted that he (or the writers) has NO clue what he is doing or what side he is on. He does always try to be on the right side and he does get it wrong. I like that, how human it is, but it can get irritating when it's so constant. So it was nice to have that. Rule of thumb: ANGSTY MOHINDER IS NEVER BAD, even if it is 'the whole world revolves around me so HRG is obviously hunting me even though my name is not Claire' Mohinder. (On a similar note - it jsut goes to show how used they all are to Mohinder's antics and bizarrities since no-one asked what he was doing there. At all. No-one even looked surprised to see him. It's Mohinder - he does that. Just ignore him and he'll go away. Or probably side with the enemy. Y'know, predictible Mohinder things.)

2. SOCKS! I did a total internal squee-dance when they did that. It was just an awesome reference to S1 and made me very happy. Yay for fleshing out Angela's character some more.

3. Nathan!Sylar. I was not expecting it and it was awesome when it came. Yaaaay!

So elsewhere.

Has anyone noticed that Adrian Pasdar has been putting on weight? I swear - he is growing another chin! Is it only me who can see that?

Mohinder doing the Daddy Issues thing made me think quite seriously on Heroes and daddy issues in the show. There's the obvious - Mohinder following in his Daddy's footsteps and never getting his approval. So much more like Sylar than he realises in that - Sylar never got his bio Dad's approval and followed foster Daddy's footsteps into being a watchmaker.

Claire has HRG and Nathan as fathers. Probably enough said there! She does have an awesome mother though. *incites the Sandra love*

Then there was Luke (oh, how I miss you) and his trying to get approval from his surragate father Sylar. Who left him behind in a pool of his own self-loathing. What else did you expect from him, tbh? But I was so hoping he would take him on and be all Jedi Master with him. *sigh*

Matt Parkman's father was evil.

The Petrelli father was a bit of a bastard by the sounds of things, then wasn't dead and ran one of the COMPANIES FULL OF DOOM then killed Adam. Bastard. Oh, and stole Peter's powers, of course. Grrr. And while Angela Petrelli is bad-ass and Made of Win I would NOT want her for a mother.

Molly's father was Sylarified. Then she had Mohinder and Matt - one crazy geneticist who didn't actually know right from wrong and one ex-cop who could control people's minds, both of whom were so caught up in their own crap that they didn't even notice Molly was having trouble at school etc. Not to mention the almost-daily break-ins and kidnappings and whathaveyou. Hope she's somewhere very, very safe now.

Micah's father was a criminal. Then he wasn't. Then his mother was. Then it was her sister who LIVED INSIDE HER BODY. Then dad died. Then mum vanished into the ether (with Molly, perhaps). Then some random woman who looks like her nearly got him kidnapped then nearly froze him to death. All before he was 14. Good times.

Hiro's father was a cold, cold founder of the company, runner of Hiro's workplace and bonker of Angela who had excellent swordsmanship and was thrown off a roof. Too many rooves in this show, in my opinion. If I were in Heroes I would totally stay off rooves. In fact, I think I may be developing some sort of complex about them.

Then finally there's Danko. If he doesn't have daddy issues of some kind then my mother's a saint!

Mind you, what can you expect of this generation when the last generation all founded the Company? Well, perhaps the generation before. Lessee...

GEN 1. Founders. Angela, Bob, Charles, Linderman and so on.
GEN2. Parents of gen 3. HRG, Claude, Sylar and so on.
GEN 3. Paying for parents' and grandparents' mistakes (and, according to Angela, repeating them). Nathan, Peter (btw we need more brotherly sisterly Claire and Peter scenes now I miss them kthnxbai), Claire (though she is younger), Sylar perhaps fits in here instead? Anyone played by Ali Larter, DL and so on.
GEN 4. Micah, Molly.
Think that's about right. I'm crap at ages. I think Gen 2 and 3 is very much prone to opinion. *shrug* Who knows? Try doing anything timeliney in HeroesVerse, your head'll explode!!

Anyway, my point is that while Heroes is very smash, smash, boom, boom, flying men and time travellers, I love that really, underneath that, it's about people, and families. And parental issues. Lots and lots of parental issues.

Ah yes, one other good thing about this episode (getting back on topic oh-so-subtly, you see what I did there?) was young Charles DeVeaux, who may or may not be spelled that way but I'm freezing cold and feel like death warmed up and then stuck to a ceiling and fed cookies so give me a break, kay? Young Charles was awesome and also made of win.

Angela's sister Alice was pointless and odd and somewhat creepy. Part of me hopes I will never have to see her again and part of me hopes I will - just to give this episode a point! Also, the whole time leading up to Angela telling Alice that she had lied to her I just sat there going, "No, don't do it. No, no. Nonono. NO!" Because she didn't need to tell her - she only did it to try and make herself feel better... there was nothing in it for Alice and it was just cruel, in my opinion. Angela wanted forgiveness, even at the expense of her sister's feelings and probably what little sanity she had left.

My final beef with this episode is the big one. WHAT THE FUCK was with the Chandra Suresh remake???? Unless Torchwood swooped in and retconned him this episode MAKES NO SENSE. And even if Captain Jack did slip him a special drink then what about the fact that the folder that lead Mohinder to the old facility was in Chandra's possessions. Are you really telling me that he didn't look at his own stuff in 50 years? Also - nicely convenient that Mohinder wasn't given that stuff back in season one when his father first died. It was blatantly storyline that was hashed together at the last minute and I do NOT like it.

Chandra was trying to help specials when we saw him, not experiment on them. He was working on theory, not experience and he was very excited to find his first one, Patient Zero - the lovely Sylar. Even if they DID want to start the Company with that whole facility thing (which is a whole can of retcon worms on its own, even without Chandra thrown in) they didn't need Chandra there!! They could have done it under the radar, the way Nathan and then Danko is/was doing it.

There was actually NO POINT to them digging up the graves. "Oh, I want a scrap of cloth of my sister's to bury." Bullshit. You knew she was alive! You're just sadistic and weird. And also bad-ass. When the writers allow it.

I think there are too many writers on Heroes and they are clashing and not completely up-to-date on each-other's storylines. This season, while still enjoyable for the characters and the incredible acting and plot-stuffs such as Sylar's father and childhood, the whole rounding up specials thing (come on, we got to see Mohinder in CHAINS, people!) and socks and so on, the season arc really has weaved all over the place. Especially volume four.

Well, apparently Brian Fuller is coming back next season so let's hope he does what he promises here. Someone needs to take the reigns before it gets ridiculous. So many people have stopped watching already... I am very patient with these things and usually jump ship long after anyone else does but even I am starting to get a little annoyed now. And they nearly got cancelled! Again! Hopefully Fuller will fix it in S4 and they won't suddenly cancel them right after that. Because that's what tends to happen. Ugh.

Final note: Does anyone actually have a coherent idea of the Heroes timeline, including all possible futures, when they branched off and when they were changed? Beause I would love to see it. If it is even possible!!
Doctor Alone

Doctor Who randomness...

I just read one of [info]cerebel's posts in which she suggested Neil Patrick Harris for the next Doctor.

I think I might die of win.

Buffy Memeage

When you see this, post another Buffy quote in your LJ. Let's see how long this can go on.

Ok, let's see if I can still do this one by heart...

You're not friends. You'll never be friends. You'll be in love until it kills you both. You'll fight and you'll shag and you'll hate each other 'til it makes you quiver but you'll never be friends. Love isn't brains, children, it's blood. Blood screaming inside you to work its wil. I may be love's bitch, but at least I'm man enough to admit it.
- Spike

Heh, without a pause. I've still got it.

I am such a loser.

Doctor Alone

Bit of a fan ramble (including spoiler for pilot of The Mentalist)

Just rewatched the Doctor Who series 3 finale - Utopia, The Sound of Drums and Last of the Time Lords. They've been repeating S4 lately and I'm keeping up to date on BBC iPlayer, only seen those episodes once and I forgot how good some of them are. Coming up to a real run of awesome ones this coming week. Anyway they gave me a craving for the previous series finale trilogy there. Gotta say, I can never see those three episodes too many times!

Ohhhhh god. I also forgot just how slashy the Doctor/Master phonecall is in SoD. Seriously. There is no-one on this EARTH that can deny the blatant slash between those two generally, but especially after that call.

MASTER: Doctor.
DOCTOR: Master.
MASTER: I love it when you use my name.

*wibble*

Plus MARTHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!! Her being in those Sontaran eps in S4 was what made me want to rewatch these. Ohhhhhh god I do adore her. And of course anything involving Jack is automatically BEST THING EVAR. Yep, even Torchwood. Yep, even that episode. Though maybe not that one. I have never been so bored by an eyeball in all my life...

Aaaaanyway. Also watched the first ep of The Mentalist today. Wasn't entirely impressed but I'll give it a shot - the main character intrigues me. However, the reast of it was pretty much standard CSI-type fare, there's a reason I don't watch that stuff - all the CSIs and Law and Order and so on. It just bores me.

Was pleased to see a couple of familiar faces though. The nursery teacher from the pilot of House took me a few moments to place. However, the other one didn't - the second he stood up and turned to the camera I was all "DANKO OMG!" Yes, he is still tiny. I was hoping the murderer wasn't him, but it was blatantly obvious through the whole thing to be honest, like a five year old wrote the damn plot, plus damnit way to typecast him. Rah.

Still, it almost redeemed itself with the final scene - main character's wall still having that face on it. Though I think it would have had more of an emotional pull if they'd left it a few episodes until that little reveal.

Main character - CANNOT remember his name for the life of me - was interesting. Kind of House-like in some ways. Also, I've always been fascinated by people like Derren Brown, who trick people and read them so easily. So, yeh, I'll give it a chance for a while. Pilots aren't always the best thing to judge a series on. Look at Angel!

Though I will saay, I would be perfectly happy the rest of my life if I owned either Logan or Mohinder, or was owned by Sylar. They are made for me :-)

Bloody Brilliant

I need some Heroes icons

Just wanted to take a moment here to say how much I am looking forward to the new Star Trek film. In fact, I will be syking myself up to doing the whole 'being in public' thing (if I'm not doing better by then anyway) to go and see it at the cinema. Only other film I can really see myself doing that for is the Wolverine film. Oh, and of cours ethe next Narnia but that goes without saying, plus will be a while yet. Oh, and Harry Potter, lol.

Anyway, so not only is Simon Pegg going to be in it doing a crazy Scottish accent, but my beloved Zachary Quinto is going to be Spock, and looks awesome as him from what I've seen. I really think he's brilliantly cast, and christ what a massive break for him! James Marsters was a brilliant vampire in a show about ten years ago and has only just got into a film as a part that lasts more than 5 mins (PS I Love You - which is by the way a great film) and isn't even listed on the baclk of the DVD cover! Zachary Quinto plays a psycho killer (with a secret love for the Indian professor *ahem*) in Heroes and is suddenly in the Star Trek movie, and playing Spock, which is huge! Good on him!

Anyway, enough babbling about the Quinto. Thinking about it has made me feel better. I shall now go in the bath and think about nothing while my poor, abused muscles hopefully stop hurting. Yaaaay. *runs off with a Stephen King novel*

Ianto - Sexy Hand Thing

(no subject)

While I hate the world and all it stands for for sending me back out of the place I have been staying for my birthday, I have to admit I am somewhat glad I can get online again to watch more Dexter :-) And to catch up on House. And my father is lending me S1 of Heroes. W00t!!

I'd just like to swing by here and mention my newest fandom (courtesy of my mother), Dexter. Special shout-out for the incredible music and for Drew Z. Greenberg. And of course Julie Benz.

That is all.

Quite Homoerotic

"Don't sully this moment with your price-taggery"

I had forgotten how much I adore Monty Burns :-)

In other news - the latest House was beyond awesome. There is no-one alive who can convince me that Wilson didn't throw that bottle to stop himself kissing House. And the story of the way they first met was brilliant.

Um... what else?

I know so much X-Men character history thatI'm concentrating on Ultimate X-Men at the moment because it's new and shiny. Don't shoot me. It's fun :-) I still take it as aside from canon. Just ordered hardback Volume 3 tonight. Need to pick up the rest of Astonishing X-Men too.

Been watching X-Men Evolution on various websites and through Lime Wire, but unfortunately I've just hit a cnag with episode 206 - Adrift. Can't find it anywhere. While not much is going to top Grim Reminder or Beast of Bayville, I still want to watch them in order :-( And the only sets I can find are Region 1. Which suxxor.

I plan to start Heroes (on my father's recommendsations) and Supernaural (blame Other Lauren for that one) online this weekend. Sunday, since I'm working tomorrow :-(

Also want to start teaching myself to make fanvids.

Sorry I've been so AWOL on the fandom journalling. I'm still holding up the geek side :-) Don't worry! I'm not slacking.

Ianto Fucking Jones

Just to Letcha Know

Though the profile is unfinished, personal entries will now be posted in my personal journal. This is no my fandom-only journal, though the two will criss-cross naturally... fandom teaches me about myself and my fandoms enter my real life a lot. I hope to finish editing both my personal journal and this journal's profiles this weekend. I'll post an entry on each journal when I do.

Personal entries now to be found at: [info]anobjectinspace. Those few of you who are interested (:-P), see you over there - in the interests of honesty, truth and openness! *toasts new journal* Enjoy.

Dr Horrible - Hands

MAJOR DR HORRIBLE SPOILERS!!!!!

Soooooo. I just rewatched the final act of Dr Horrible's Singalong Blog. It's interesting, as Other Lauren said last night, how much more there is to notice, how different it is second time around. Of course, the main thing I noticed right at the beginning (I just might sleep with the same girl twice...) is just how awesome Nathan's singing voice is. Well I noticed it the first time. But of course then I was also mired in plot.

The main thing I really noticed was how different my reaction was, to the ending. The first time I was totally enjoying it, right in there, a little upset they killed Penny but, it being Joss Whedon, I wasn't surprised even though I didn't expect it. Of course, I knew from the second Billy paused and stared but then so did everyone else, lol. The first time around I was loving the build-up, the song really touched me but you don't always hear all of it first time listening. Loved that the theme tune came on as he suited up, that's classic Whedon (example, Buffy going off to kill the Master in her prom dress), was letting myself get all syked up even though I was going, 'Oh, Billy!' Then the ending. It was so sudden. I just sat there, staring. And I felt hollow. It did to me similar to what the S4 finalé of House did and the Ats episode A Hole in the World. Only reason it didn't hit me quite as hard is because I hadn't had 4 years to get to know the characters in this case. In fact, kudos to Joss for making me care enough to feel even a fraction of what I did for HH/WH and AHitW on such short terms!

The second time, I knew what was coming. The second time, I really heard the words in his final song. I understood better. The second time, I got tearful. "Then I won't feel... a thing" I get it now. I understood it first time, but I really get it now. And it hurts. Because it could so, so easily be one of us.

Willow, anyone? Season 6, after Tara died? What about Wes? So he didn't kill but it would have only been a tiny slip for him to (and to be fair, Dr Horrible didn't ACTUALLY kill either). Billy inadvertantly did what Angel did to get into the Cricle of the Black Thorn.

MY two favourite things in the entire show? Yes, I adored the songs and the humour and I can't get enough of Nathan's body in that oh-so-tight T. But you know me, I like it deep. Both my favourite parts were in the last act. I'm not including the final few seconds because we all know - we either loved it or we hated it. I'm on the former side. Though, by default, that also puts me on the latter side.

I loved that he hesitated, when he was about to shoot Captain Hammer. You could see that he didn't really want to. That he knew it was a line he didn't actually want to cross.

I loved that he tried to stop Hammer from firing the gun as soon as he saw it was malfunctioning. Because he hadn't actually killed any of the people in that room, even though he fired off a few shots, it was only Hammer he was after. Remember - "There are kids in that park..."

Oh, and I loved what Joss did. So artistic and beautifully symbolic and subtle. The way he only ever blogged as Dr Horrible before - we met Billy outside of the blog, in his real life. The final few seconds, it was Billy who was blogging. I thought that was brilliantly done. It's one of those flashes or inspiration you get, when you realise it's perfect and you write everything else around it, because you know that has to be the way it is even if it makes any of the rest of the plot harder to do. That's when you really know you have something good.

Going into it I should have known. Joss doesn't do happy or lighthearted, at least not for long. He hates all his characters. (well, he loves them all deeply but sometimes I wonder if that's the reason he lashes out and does to them the things he does!) He likes to make us think and he likes us to come away still in pain, to leave scars. He likes to hurt us and therefore to make us better people. He also likes to show us the darkness inside of us, let's not forget that. I always said if anyone hurt Eloise, I don't know if I could kill on purpose, but I could easily do some pretty hefty torture. It's just one slip from that to killing. I've always considered myself pretty loyal, because friends are so, so important to me. I think there are a few people in my life today that I would take revenge for. I'd hope they know who they are.

My point is, Dr Horrible and Billy are both a part of the people watching. Who hasn't sacrificed some of their own morals to impress someone else, in the past? Aren't you scared of yourself now?
